'Straight From the Heart'..Poem n Sketch -my contribution to The Tendulkar Opus team...part of book gifted to Sachin on his 37th bdy in 2010
I am just me, the boy next door,
a guy simple and ordinary.
I live each day...as simply as I could possibly.
With dedication and passion to play,
Cricket for the honour of my country.
Playing cricket for my country was a dream,
Winning trophies that shine and gleam,
Filling billions of hearts with joy and pride,
Share sweet memories and take the laurels in our stride.
Titles and records are only part of the game,
the glory, the glamour and even the fame.
Honestly and in good faith,
I work really hard.
When the country wins a game,
I get my biggest reward.
I am a mere mortal,
I am no God.
I just play my natural game,
I too can be flawed.
I went through tough times as well,
Not all was as simple as it seems.
I devoted all of my childhood,
To live my dream.
It wasn’t an easy ride,
I continued my swim against the tide.
For my passion for cricket was pure,
Believing ‘I can’ was the only cure.
I was written off by some
But most still believed I could
Conquer the decisive phase
Amidst the turmoil my ground I stood,
For injuries couldn’t take away
My grit and determination to play.
I have had my share of failures,
It’s a part of the learning process.
As we don’t realise how sweet success is,
Till we see what lies on the other side of the fence.
Extraordinary results call for extraordinary efforts
from ordinary humans like you and me,
if you have the talent and passion
you too can be who you dream to be!
Remember no one but you can run your races,
Commitment and passion will take u places
Substitute for hard work does not exist,
What you resist will always persist.
I think I am really blessed
and so I have been told,
to be showered with so much love, respect and admiration
From fans all over the world.
Giving is one of the virtues I got as legacy
From my parents and family who are God to me,
I can’t thank them enough for all that I have got
It couldn’t have been possible without the values that I was taught.
I’ll continue to play till I enjoy
The game with pride and dignity,
I am just me, the boy next door
a guy simple and ordinary.
